Instrument assisted Soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM)
IASTM is a skilled myofascial intervention used for detection and treatment of soft tissue disorders. It is based on the principles of cross-friction massage, using instruments that are usually made of stainless steel with bevelled edges which are specially designed to conform to different body anatomical locations. It can allow for more deeper and focused tissue manipulation to target specific body areas including the skin, myofascia, muscles and tendons.
The ergonomic design allows the tools to work on a cellular level to effectively break down adhesions and scar tissue and to stimulate the healing response. The introduction of controlled microtrauma stimulates a local inflammatory response to initiate reabsorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates remodelling of affected soft tissue.
It can be used to treat a range of condition including but not limited to: ligament sprains muscle strains tendinopathies i.e. Tennis elbow muscular pain and restrictions excessive scare tissue.
